The Holiday Scramble, Twice as Nice
December 23, 2009 | Sara Fusco |
As we’re so often reminded, the holiday season is a wonderful time of joy, happiness, and gratitude for the family, friends and loved ones in our lives.
It’s also a mad scramble.
No, no, I didn’t wait until the last minute to do my gift shopping (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it). It’s a mad scramble because those of us in the non-profit world are looking at our bottom line and hoping we raise enough money to meet our budgets. We prep, we plan, and then we downright beg and plead for every donation – from $50 to $10,000 – that allows us to keep our doors open and our work going.
And if you’re on our email list, you know that Refugees International ain’t too proud to beg.
Right now, five of our Board Members have pledged to match every donation until December 31 so that we can reach our goal to raise $50,000 more online. It’s a powerful commitment from our leadership, and one that we hope will motivate you to give before we close the books on 2009.
Your support allows us to continue being the leading voice for solutions to refugee crises worldwide. We are uncompromising, fearless and independent in our work, and we don’t accept any government or UN funding so that we can remain so.
Our success is based on a simple formula: we witness refugees’ need, we promote solutions to decision makers and we demand action. It is also based on a simple pledge by supporters like you to give generously and help the world’s most vulnerable people – from Sudan to Burma to Pakistan – gain access to food, water, shelter and protection.
Make sure your donation, and your commitment to RI, goes twice as far before the end of the year. Dollar-for-dollar, your donation will be matched. Help us meet our match and make our budget. Please give today.
And happy holidays from all of us at Refugees International.
