The Bidoun in Kuwait Continue to suffer from mass discrimination
Wed, 10/19/2011 - 14:07
Though most bidoun have only known Kuwait as their home, with residency tracing back several generations, they are still treated as less than second class citizens, in fact they are not treated as citizens of Kuwait at all. They are often forced to select an arbitrary nationality when applying for identity cards, with no hope of claiming a Kuwaiti identity. And while men are able to transfer nationalirty onto their children, women are not granted that same right, making any children produced by a Kuwaiti woman married to a bidoun man stateless, offering little opportunity for a prosperous life. Kuwait must take strides to modernize its nationality law, and grant equal rights to its female citizens.
