South Africa: Former Zimbabwean Journalist in Johannesburg

10/09/2007

This woman was a professional journalist inside Zimbabwe. After being beaten by authorities for her reporting, she left the country and moved to South Africa. She now works as a domestic for a family in Johannesburg. She is one of the residents of the Central Methodist Church, and chooses to live there and eat “only when I can” so that she can send more than half of her monthly salary home to her family in Zimbabwe. She earns about US$ 50 per month.
