Sierra Leonean refugees in Guinea

05/03/2001

Other refugees said that they only moved to the new camp because UNHCR told them that the agency would eventually facilitate their return home. This large group of Sierra Leonean men all expressed their desire to go home immediately. One man in this group explained, "We know that there is no peace in Sierra Leone, but we want to go anyway. If I had a choice, I'd rather go to of the the safe districts in Sierra Leone than stay here in Guinea. There is no work for us here and we are isolated from all towns where we could find small jobs. We would rather take our chances in Sierra Leone."
