Afghanistan 2002: Afghan boy with destroyed house

Afghanistan 2002
05/29/2002

"I arrived in Kabul about 2 days ago. I am so happy to be here finally. I lived in Peshawar for the past 10 years. I am 19, and I have 6 brothers and sisters. I was a construction worker in Pakistan. I am uneducated, but I want to find a job here. I will start looking soon. It will be difficult for me here, but my life in Pakistan was also difficult. Look at my house. It is destroyed. We are living with my grandfather right now. We want to rebuild our house, but the government has forbidden us to begin [because they are waiting to finalize the Kabul city plan]. I don't know why. My father has found a job in a bank, so he is able to begin to repair our house. We are ready to start our lives again, but we first need our own house."
