Chrot Reng is an elderly woman with a mentally ill son, pictured here with her, and a 30-year-old daughter, who was farming three hours walk from the house. Of all the families RI visited with CFDS in Mondulkiri, this one was clearly most on the edge. CFDS staff had a lengthy discussion with Reng trying to figure out the best way to help her improve the livelihood of her family. A garden plot is available close by, but the fence is in a state of disrepair. As a short-term strategy they agreed to help Reng repair the fence and try to get some vegetables planted. In the meantime, she will continue to receive emergency food support in 2003.
