Chad 2004 - Sudanese Refugees at Water Well

03/09/2004

This is one of three wells recently drilled to provide water to the refugees at Farchana camp and the nearby village. Water is life in this semi-arid region and disputes about water rights can be deadly.   The size and location of refugee camps are dependent upon how much water can be found.  Farchana camp now houses 2,000 refugees and, if sufficient water can be found, the population will be increased to 6,000.  Two of the wells will be used by the refugees and one is for the local community.
