Kosovo 2005: Family doesn't believe lead poisoning stories

06/10/2005

This family lives in Zitkovac camp in North Mitrovica which is irretrievably polluted with lead and must be evacuated immediately. The mother explained to RI her daily struggles and how life is hard for her, her mentally ill husband, her five sons, one of whom is epileptic, and her three 3 daughters. She argued that the she would evacuate the camp if the children had lead in their blood, but she does not believe it is true. She is clearly convinced that the lead issue is motivated by politics and is merely an attempt to get the Roma off that land so the municipality can build a stadium.
