Sri Lanka 2005: Scrambling to rebuild a school

09/19/2005

The Sri Sithivinayaga Vidyalayam school was in the worst situation of the three schools that RI visited. The original school was completely washed away by the storm. The displaced were given shelter on the grounds of a Paddy Marketing Board warehouse, and the school had to start from scratch in this new location. The warehouse itself is a huge, dark place and was not being used for classrooms on the day we visited. The tireless principal, Mr. M. Peranamtham, was hoping to get funding to convert the warehouse into an auditorium.
