Exposing Darfur: Photography Exhibit

NBC News anchor Ann Curry will present an extraordinary exhibit featuring photographs taken during her reporting from Chad and the Darfur region of Sudan. Ms. Curry’s images tell an evocative, inspiring and eye-opening story about the lives of the people of Darfur and their struggle for human rights under the repressive regime of Sudanese leader Omar al Bashir and the brutal attacks by the Janjaweed militia. Ms. Curry is an accomplished photographer who augments her broadcast journalism with still photography. Her images illustrate the peacefulness that was, and the realities of human rights abuses now taking a human toll on an entire society.

South Sudan: An Enduring Struggle
Directed and filmed by Refugees International (RI) Board Member Matt Dillon while on an RI assessment mission to south Sudan in February 2009, this 10 minute documentary shows the current struggles of returning south Sudanese refugees and the communities that are hosting them. Approximately 2 million south Sudanese have returned home following the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement between north and south Sudan that ended a 21-year civil war. However, tensions between the north and south are on the rise again, largely because of extreme poverty and lack of access to water, sanitation, education, health care and jobs. The U.S. and the international community must support the implementation of the peace process and increase funding for basic social services and
income opportunities.
