At a fundraiser this past winter benefiting Refugees International's
Young Humanitarian Circle (YHC), Pamela Sorensen was watching a
screening of "War Child" when she saw Emmanuel Jal, a Sudanese refugee
she'd met years before, on the screen.
"[I] had not understood the depth and breadth of his suffering because
he was just a naturally sweet kid with a sunny disposition. Who would
have thought someone so happy and positive would have gone through such
horrors?"
Just a typical eye-opener in the world of YHC. The Young Humanitarian
Circle is " a network of over 300 eclectic and sophisticated young
professionals interested in humanitarian issues." They come together for
meetings, to have a drink, socialize and swap ideas, then brainstorm on
behalf of Refugees International (RI), one of the leading International
NGOs assisting displaced people around the world. It operates in more
than 20 countries, helping refugees as well as victims of internal
displacement, and executes programs for humanitarian aid, policy change
and conflict resolution.
