A year ago, Burmese monk U Kovida helped spark the nonviolent Saffron Revolution that brought international attention to human rights abuses in Myanmar. This made him a target of the Burmese government, which forced Kovida to flee to Thailand, where he came into contact with RI. Kovida currently resides in Oakland and continues to advocate for human rights.
