Refugees International is excited to again be a participant in the Fourth Annual Ante Up For Africa at the 2010 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ante Up For Africa (AUFA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by Don Cheadle, Annie Duke and Norman Epstein dedicated to raising money and awareness for Africans in need. It is, annually, the largest celebrity poker tournament in Las Vegas. AUFA takes place this year on Saturday, July 3.
Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Tracy McGrady, Hand Azaria, and top poker professionals Phil Hellmuth and Howard Lederer are part of a long list of celebrities scheduled to participate in the tournament.
“We are so thankful to everyone who has participated in Ante Up For Africa throughout the years and are thrilled to have raised nearly $3 million to date to assist those in need,” said Don Cheadle in a press release. “We are making tremendous strides in raising awareness and hope this year’s tournament is a huge charitable success.”
Cheadle, an accomplished poker player, and Duke, who has more than $4 million in World Series of Poker tournament winnings, are committed to raising public awareness about the tragedy in Darfur and helping to generate assistance for its victims.
In the previous events, many of the in the money finishers volunteered to donate half of their winnings to the charity. Proceeds from the event will go to Refugees International, the ENOUGH Project and others.
