Danish photographer John Grarup beautifully documents [1] communities in Eastern Africa that have been displaced as a result of climate change. New York Times use of the technically-incorrect term, “climate refugees” duly noted. (They aren't allowed to get refugee status!)
And while we’re on the subject of “all the news that’s fit to print,” East Africa bureau chief for the New York Times, Jeffery Gettleman came out with a fairly controversial piece [2] on “Africa’s Forever Wars”—insightful or crudely simplistic?
A new Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting project [3] takes a look at the aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake from the other side of the island, as well as covers some of the stateless issues that we work on here at RI.
What’s missing from this Thomas Friedman piece [4]? It seems that in all the talk of sectarianism leading up to the March elections, everyone’s managed to forget that Iraq has a ton of refugees.
Finally, we get a lot of unusual mail here at RI, but this fax [5] addressed to Peacekeeping Associate Matt Pennington, our own “Nigerian Prince”, is definitely a first.
